Sometimes this may work fine for your needs, and it's fast and reliable. Special functions, like volume controls, etc. That means the OS doesn't know exactly what your devices are, it just considers them to be generic devices.

This prevents the OS from having to re-enumerate your devices every time you switch ports, but what it does is it feeds generic keyboard/mouse info to the computers at all times.

The downside though is that it can be unstable, requiring Windows to re-recognize/re-enumerate the connected USB devices every time you switch ports.Īnother type of KVM switch uses emulation technology. The USB Hub-type switch has it's benefits, because all devices are seen by the computer exactly as what they are.

This is why you hear the sound when switching to or from the computer, signifying the USB reconnecting or disconnecting. The one you have uses a hub-based structure. As far as USB kvm switches go, they are built in a few different ways. I'm not sure exactly why the issue occurs, but I know that part of the problem has to do with how the KVM switch works. Thanks in advance for any thoughts you can give me on this. Then I figured it could be the motherboard so replaced the motherboard with a brand new one, same model and all, Intel DH55PJ with an iCore5. The only other difference was that on the 'good' station they use admin rights for everything so I granted admin rights to the 'bad' desktop, and although that has slowed the issue a bit, it's still doing it. So i figured I would switch the KVMs on those two stations, but the problem only persisted on the same one, so ruled out KVM issue. Weirdest thing is there is another station with a setup exactly like it, but it does not present that glitch. Have tried upgrading the chipset drivers, enabling and disabling legacy USB support on the BIOS, prevent windows from powering down the USB to save power.

Have tried installing Windows 7 and XP, and both do the same, suddenly ti will say that the USB device cannot be started and drop them. The other 3 computers next to it do not have that issue. This computer will suddenly drop connection to the USB mouse and keyboard, to which is connected via a usb-KVM (Startech SV411KUSB). To eliminate cords going directly into the Swifty, add the Beam.Hello! I've been dealing with the weirdest glitch ever. You must use this type of splitter that breaks the signal into a left and a right channel. Not all splitters will work with the Swifty. To use two external switches, purchase the splitter. Switch 4 is used to disable the infrared receiver. Starting with Model SW2 switch 3 can be ON or OFF, Swifty will automatically determine if a stereo adapter is in use. Set Switch to OFF when connecting two switches using a stereo adapter. Set Switch 3 to ON when using a single switch. * Up to two switches can be directly connected to Swifty and up to three switches can be wirelessly interfaced with the optional Beam transmitter. In the photo above switch number 1 is on the left and up is ON.

There is no special software to install for configuration, just select mouse buttons, joystick buttons or keyboard characters using one simple DIP switch.
#USB SWITCH ON OFF DRIVERS#
Swifty utilizes standard USB Human Interface Device (HID) drivers and works with Windows, Macintosh and Linux computers, Chromebooks, Android tablets and smartphones, and most Speech Generating Devices (SGD). Swifty is powered from the USB host device so no external power is required.

It builds on Swifty by adding additional iOS specific modes to a proven and reliable switch interface. If you're looking for an iPad, iPhone, or iPod touch switch interface check out Tapio.
